Localized Management for Proxy Mobile IPv6
نویسندگان
چکیده
Proxy Mobile IPv6 is a promising protocol for supporting mobility. Unlike Mobile IPv6, which is based on hostmobility, the Proxy Mobile IPv6 is based on network-based mobility so that it can remove additional implementations on a Mobile Node (MN). Due to this feature, Proxy Mobile IPv6 has been considered as a better protocol than Mobile IPv6 in supporting mobility. However, PMIPv6 still has a limitation, called localized management. All the messages from a MN should go through a Local Mobility Anchor or LMA, which causes the selection of non-optimal path for message exchanging as well as the bottleneck problem. Some previous works applies route optimization mechanisms; however, they are concerned about the data packet only. A little attention has been given to route optimization of both binding message and the data packet. In this paper, to provide safety for the bottleneck problem and shortest path for both binding message and the data packet, we propose the Localized Management support PMIPv6 (LM-PMIPv6) that support localized handover and route optimization using the reactive fast handover mechanism and hierarchical architecture. It enables handover without LMA’s participation and has smaller handover delay and packet delivery cost compared with PMIPv6.

Proxy Mobile IPv6 is the IETF Standard for network-based mobility management. In Proxy Mobile IPv6, mobile nodes are topologically anchored at a Local Mobility Anchor, which forwards all data for registered mobile nodes. The setup and maintenance of localized routing, which allows forwarding of data packets between two mobile nodes’ Mobility Access Gateways without involvement of their Local Mo...

Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) is a network based mobility management protocol that enables IP mobility for a host without requiring its participation in any mobility-related signaling. PMIPv6 requires all communications to go through the local mobility anchor. As this can be suboptimal, Localized Routing (LR) allows Mobile Nodes (MNs) attached to the same or different Mobile Access Gateways (MAGs)...

In Proxy Mobile IPv6, packets received from a Mobile Node (MN) by the Mobile Access Gateway (MAG) to which it is attached are typically tunneled to a Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) for routing. The term "localized routing" refers to a method by which packets are routed directly between an MN’s MAG and the MAG of its Correspondent Node (CN) without involving any LMA. In a Proxy Mobile IPv6 deployme...

This memo defines a portion of the Proxy Mobile IPv6 Management Information Base (MIB) for use with network management protocols in the Internet community. In particular, the Proxy Mobile IPv6 MIB can be used to monitor and control the mobile access gateway (MAG) and the local mobility anchor (LMA) functions of a Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIPv6) entity.

IP mobility support has been a hot topic over the last years, recently fostered by the role of IP in the evolution of the 3G mobile communication networks. Standardization bodies, namely IETF, IEEE and 3GPP are working on different aspects of the mobility aiming at improving the mobility experience perceived by users. Traditional IP mobility support mechanisms, Mobile IPv4 or Mobile IPv6, are b...
